While there are very few constants in the world, one fact that remains true is that even in the post-roast dinner haze there is always room for dessert. On wintery days when the darkness creeps in early, there is something particularly comforting about a warm fruit crumble or a decadent pudding steeped in custard. So if you are looking for something to follow up a showstopper of a roast we’ve put together a collection of our favourite comforting desserts for the roast dinner season.

Roast Plum Bake with Streusel Crumble

This simple deconstructed crumble is a great way to highlight seasonal plums, sitting on a bed of crunchy strudel and topped with a generous spoonful of amaretto-spiked cream.

Vegan Apple Berry Crumble

Blueberries, raspberries, and apples make up the warm filling of this easy vegan crumble. Serve with custard or ice cream, or both if you’re feeling extra.

Plum Tarte Tatin

This beautiful five-ingredient tarte tatin from Jamie Oliver couldn’t be easier to make and is perfect for serving up for a crowd following a hearty roast dinner.

Wintry Apple Bake with Double Ginger Crumble

The addition of both ground and candied ginger to this crumble topping adds a gentle warmth to this wintery dessert. Add a trickle of cream or a dollop of custard when serving for an extra indulgence.

Steamed Marmalade Sponge and Whisky Custard

The combination of thick-cut, slightly bitter marmalade and rich whisky custard add a sense of decadence to this simple spong pudding.

Orange Chocolate Chip Bread and Butter Pudding

If you are still looking for comfort following a big roast, this bread and butter pudding, packed with fragrant orange and studded with chocolate, from Rukmini Iyer is the ultimate comforting dessert for colder evenings.

Vegan Sticky Toffee Pudding

This vegan take on a classic autumnal dessert is just as good as the original. Coated in a rich caramel sauce and spiced with ginger and cinnamon, this is the perfect dessert for finishing off a plant-based roast.

Mary Berry’s Brioche Frangipane Apple Pudding

With the soft, light texture of brioche, the subtle fragrance of almonds, and the familiar sweetness of cooked apples, this light autumnal pudding from Mary Berry is a delicious dessert to follow a heavy roast.

Mary Berry’s Toffee Apple & Pecan Pudding

The fluffy apple sponge of this apple pudding is crowned with a creamy toffee sauce and chopped pecan nuts, in this comforting dessert from Mary Berry.

Vegan Chocolate Lava Cakes

There is a simple joy in digging your spoon into a classic chocolate lava cake and seeing the gooey molten filling pour out onto the plate. In this vegan version from Holly Jade you can enjoy all of the gorgeous goodness in plant-based form.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Do we even need to convince you on this one? The classics never get old and this traditional sticky toffee pudding from Nigella Lawson definitely proves that to be true. Serve with all the extra treacly sauce and plenty of cream.

Apple and Custard Crumble

If you’ve ever thought that crumble needed more custard, this is the dessert for you. Adding the custard into the apple filling creates a creamy ready-to-go post-roast dinner pudding perfect for the whole family.

Rick Stein’s Apple Charlotte

This simple buttery apple dessert from Rick Stein only requires a handful of ingredients but results in a beautiful pudding to present after a family roast dinner.

Pear, Blackberry and Cardamom Crumble

Black peppercorns and cardamom add a unique touch to this blackberry and pear crumble from Rukmini Iyer. Serve hot from the oven with ice cream, custard, or cream.
